Promotion: BSY Noni Facial Soap Bar

19 Dec

As mentioned in my previous blog posts, I first discovered the BSY facial soap at my bf’s house.  They were having  house gathering & at the end of the night, my face was feeling so icky that I was willing to grab just about anything to wash my face.  Usually after cleansing my face, my skin would feel so dry & tight around the mouth area PLUS the corner of my lips would keep peeling off & a few red weird bumps would appear… … BUT this soap did not do anything weird to my face.  So I continued to use this & on the 4th day, my complexion cleared.

My 1st BSY soap…
It’s a miracle!!!

So then began the search for this BSY soap, but somehow it was not being publicly marketed so I didn’t know where to get it.  Until a reader found a local store selling the BSY soap at SGD$20, but after corresponding with this lady via email, she told me that she doesn’t have a store.  Hmm.. maybe she had asked the store to put her contact alongside their office address.  But anyway, she could not really help me with my questions, so I thought of looking for other sellers.

Then another reader knew someone who sells the soap as well & got that seller to contact me.  This lady also doesn’t have a brick-and-mortar store so she also thought that it would be a good idea to sell the soaps thru Berry Mii.  And of course I suggested for her to offer it to me (or us) at a lower price.

So here it is!

The 2nd seller told me that the profit margin for this soap is already very low, so she could not really offer such a huge discount, but BETTER THAN NOTHING, right????????

Here’s the final deal and this will end on 31 Dec 2010:

First, I have to let you know that 1 bar of soap can last about 6 months.  So if you divide the cost of the soap over 6 months based on SGD$18.50, it is only like SGD$3.08 per month.  I think it freakin worth it lah.

*jumps for joy*… YIPPEEEEEE!!!

I have received some email enquiries from readers about the ingredients of the soap.  I have asked the lady but she also has limited information from the distributor, but she tried her best to find out for me.

I was told the the soap “contains Noni & is made of natural ingredients, no harmful ingredients like SLS“.  I am pretty ok with this because my ultra-sensitive skin didn’t have any negative reaction unlike other cleansers.

And that is why…. I took advantage of the 1 box promotion at SGD$105.  There are 6 bars of soap in 1 box.  So divide the cost out again, each bar of soap costs only SGD$17.50 for me.  Tee Hee!

And because 1 bar of soap can last so long, I don’t want to hold on to all the soaps or else they will be very close to expiry date.  Therefore, I am giving 1 to Gigi because she has young acne skin that is prone to oiliness.  1 to my bf so he can use it for face & body.  1 to a friend who has eczema, hoping that the soap can help her too.

*Fresh out of the oven!*

Am I bothered by the limited information on ingredients?  Honestly, I am a tiny bit curious.  Partly because I have already developed the habit of looking at a product’s ingredient list.  But on the other hand, it is scentless & gentle on my face, so at least I know that this BSY soap does not contain synthetic fragrances that can irritate my skin.  On top of that, this soap really did improve my complexion.

So, my decision is that I will still use it.

*Just rub the soap between your palm to create a rich lather then wash face with the foam!*

*individually packed with plastic cling wrap*

What is Noni & how is it good for us???

I did some research over Google & this is what it has to say about the magic of Noni.

The Noni plant has analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal components which may assist the body in the restoration of healthy skin cells.  The fruit has been shown to cleanse the body & eliminate toxins, increase cellular repair and regeneration.  All these are to promote healthy skin cells!

Research has shown that its seeds are rich in linoleic acid, which is an essential fatty acid for skin hydration and health.  This is important to prevent dry skin, ease skin trauma & allows the skin to rejuvenate.  Mixing the fruit & seed together can improve skin health if you suffer from skin eruptions and rough, irritated skin.  This essential fatty acid is also vital for the healthy functioning of the body’s cell membranes, and to boost healthy nerve cells.

Here are my Before & After photos.

I am truly pleased with this soap because it delivered its results to me & I am taking out my time to introduce this soap to you because I hope that it can help you like how it helped me.  =)

But first, let’s take a trip down memory lane.  When I first started out this blog, I was plagued with cold sores & eczema + some kind of weird red rashes around my mouth area.  And yes, I was depressed for a long long long long long time.  See photo below:

SEE THOSE UGLY COLD SORES + ECZEMA + WEIRD RASH?!?!?!?!?!
Oily shiny skin…
Bumpy spots around the sides of the nose & chin…

Then I discovered natural/organic skincare & it improved my skin condition, but there were still moments when it will relapse.  Still, it was much much better than before.  See post HERE on the post about my 2 cyborg eyes.  Or you can just see photo below:

Ignore the PMS acne breakouts, you can tell my complexion cleared out by switching to natural/organic skincare.
But still has a tiny bit of skin problems left behind & sometimes will still relapse.
Not so oily & this was taken in the middle of the day without cleansing face.

Now the following photos are the results of the BSY Noni Soap.

I have kept the external conditions the same while taking these photos, such as:

–  taken by the same camera: Sony Ericsson Satio hp (sorry lah, that time I don’t have a good camera yet)

–  taken in the same room with the same lighting

–  taken after I get home from work without cleansing face

–  no photoshop or anything, photos are posted in raw form.  Anyway, my photoshop skills are crap.  LOL.  That’s why I always post photos which I find from the internet instead of making my own.  hahaha!

The following photos are all close up shots.  Ugh.

The Before photos were taken AFTER the use of natural/organic skincare, but BEFORE the use of BSY soap.

The After photos were all taken about 1 week AFTER the use of BSY soap.  You can judge the results for yourself.

Less oily on my T-zone.
Reduction in bumpy spots.
I think skin redness has gone down a little as well.
Awesome.

Yay!  Weird rash around my mouth has subsided after 1 week!
Actually the skin around that area started to peel off a little, then it slowly started to regenerate skin & now I am enjoying smooth skin.  Awesome x 2.

T-zone definitely reduced oiliness.
Lesser bumpy spots.
Another thing that improved was the reduction in blackheads!  You can’t tell from the photos because I’m not using a super duper powerful camera.  My skin started to flake slightly around my face & at first I thought that it was getting dry.  However, it doesn’t feel dry at all.  After a few days of flaking, my complexion just miraculously became better.  It seems like the soap was getting rid of dead skin.  Awesome x 3.

Awesome x 4.

Pretty amazing, huh.

Recently, I even persuaded my bf to use the soap on his back because it was full of rashes & weird red spots (i dunno what they are called).

I took a photo before he used the soap on his back, then took another photo 5 days after.  See below photos:

Can’t believe that is the same back, but it is!
Awesome x 5.

ok, it’s like 1:59am & I am super sleepy now.  Please pardon any typos or grammar mistakes because I am too tired to vet thru my own work.

To end this post, please let me know if you are interested in getting this soap & send me an email at berrymii@hotmail.com by 31 December 2010.  Please also read HERE for more information on the payment / delivery / collection / any other stuff.

And of course, a big ass Berry Mii stamp for the BSY Noni Facial Soap!

Top 10 Benefits of Honey & many more

10 Dec

p.s – very useful to click on the link above as there are more tips inside on how to use honey

This is going to be like… my favorite’est topic EVER.

I love honey.  I’m a honey person.  And I can’t live without honey.  I have been using honey for years!  In the past, I just consume honey because it is so yummy, but the last couple of months, I learnt to use honey on my skin!

I came across THIS article on the 9 benefits of honey, but I have the secret to a 10th benefit.  Tee hee!  Read on!

I’m just going to go thru quickly on some points & elaborate on others, especially on how to use honey on your skin.  They are not in any particular order.

Oh wait, before I go on, I should tell you that I use Organic Manuka Honey UMF+25.  If you want to use other honey, it is still good but make sure they are unprocessed & raw because heat destroys nutrients.  However, I read that Manuka Honey is the most effective in skin treatments.

Also, the store assistant told me not to use a metal spoon to scoop the honey out & to store the honey at room temperature.  I did a check over the internet & it states that honey is slightly acidic in nature & might corrode the metal spoon.  (O_O)   Okay, I didn’t know that but now I do.  Honey will crystalize if you put it in the fridge, so it is okay to place it in a dark cool cabinet.

#1 – Natural Sweetener
Honey can be used to replace sugar in foods & drinks.

Also, if you want to have good clear skin, you SHOULD be avoiding processed sugar.  I myself have cut down on drinking sodas.  I drink fruit juice / water / green tea instead of gulping down a Coke.  And man, do I love Coke… especially when I add a little salt into it.  Oh man, I love salty too.  But yes, I have cut down on all unhealthy stuff.  ALL FOR BEAUTY’S SAKE!!!  (who’s Beauty?)

#2 – Aids in Weight Loss
Honey can burn fats while we sleep!  Not that I need it because I’m already twiggy, but it is good to know that it can help keep me slim if I ever grow fat.

#3 – Helps Digestion
The enzymes that are present in honey can break down raw sugars & starch.

#4 – Nutrition & Antioxidants
Honey is enriched with vitamins, mineral and complex carbohydrates, sugars & antioxidants!  They can help fight free radicals & cancer!

#5 – Beautifies Skin
This is my favorite’est of them all because I have deep hard love for using honey in this way.  So this Point #5 deserves a photo from Google:

p.s – also useful to click on above link on how to treat acne with honey!

You can use honey as a hair conditioner or a face mask as it is rich in vitamins, minerals & amino acids!

For me, I use it 3 times a week as a facial mask after my facial scrub / exfoliation!   I also use it as a spot treatment for my acne.

As a mask, I use the honey on its own 2 times a week.  And I do a hardcore masking with honey + rhassoul clay 1 time a week.  This is how Berry Mii does it:

2 times a week after facial scrub/exfoliation
1)  Spread the honey all over face.  I even apply it over my eyelids & lips.  You won’t have to worry about eating it because it tastes so good & you won’t die from it.  In fact, you will even benefit from eating the honey that drips into your mouth as per Point #1 – #4 above.  haha!

2)  Massage for a few minutes.

3)  This is optional, but this is what I sometimes do when I have the time.  I boil a little water & put my face over the steam for just 2 – 3 minutes.  This helps my pores to open & allow the nutrients from the honey to be absorbed better into my skin.  Some people might say that steaming the face can cause dryness, so do not over-steam your face if you feel that it will dry out your skin.  Recommended steaming session is once a week only.

4)  Leave it on for another 20mins.  I heard that some people leave honey on their faces overnight!  But I can imagine that it would be so messy on your pillow.  What if you wake up with ants on your face?  Or worse, realizing that the commando cockroach is having a feast over your lips?!?!  eww.

5)  Massage for another few minutes.

6)  Rinse off with cold water to close back the pores.

7)  Follow up with the usual skincare routine of toning, moisturizing & whatever other stuff you do to your face.

My face always feels so smooth & moisturized right after!  I find that the use of honey is healthier & more efficient than using any other types of facial masks.

Hardcore masking 1 time a week after facial scrub/exfoliation
My bf always calls me a Mad Scientist whenever I start preparing this.  hahaha… he calls this my ‘Magic Potion‘.

1)  Boil some water.  While waiting for water to boil, prepare your DIY Honey Facial Mask!

2)  Mix 1 to 1½ teaspoon of rhassoul clay with just enough liquid to get a semi-thick paste like mud, or if you prefer something more watery then just add more liquid.  The liquid can be distilled water, hydrosol or even green tea.  For me, I usually use either Avene Thermal Water or hydrosols.

3)  Mix ¾ teaspoon of honey into the rhassoul clay & stir well.

4)  You may even add whatever you want to it.  I sometimes will add 1-2 drops of essential oil or a little bit of serum or a few drops of Vitamin E to the DIY facial mask.  If you have acne skin, you can even add a tiny dash of cinnamon powder.  If you desire some whitening, then add a few drops of lemon juice.  Or whatever you can find in your kitchen or your cabinet.  Just make sure you do the appropriate research on what is suitable for your skin type.  And… … PATCH TEST, people!!!  Do a patch test!!!

5)  By now, water should already be boiled.  I pour the hot water into a bowl & put 5 drops of Tea Tree essential oil into it.  Then I put a towel over my head & steam my face for 5 mins.  The steam will open up my pores & the Tea Tree can cleanse my skin at the same time.  p.s – I have learnt not to open my eyes while doing this because the Tea Tree essential oil freakin stings!!!  haha!  wait a minute, why am I laughing at my own pain.  I am so SM.

6)  After 5 mins, pat dry with towel & now I can apply my Magic Potion!  EXCITED’NESS x 100000000!!!!

7)  If after applying the Magic Potion to my face & there is still some leftover, I’ll spread the remainder on my neck & chest.  Those areas need some TLC (Tender Loving Care) too, you know.

8)  This is optional.  As the bowl of hot water still has a little bit of heat, I put my face over it again to gently steam it for 1-2 minutes.  OH FOR THE LOVE OF ALL MOTHER NATURE, MAY ALL THE NUTRIENTS FROM THE MAGIC POTION BE SUCKED DIRECTLY INTO MY SKIN, YO!!!

9)  Lie back in bed & think of the beautiful coast of Hawaii.  Wait for 15 – 20 mins (or more if you have the time).

10)  When it’s time to wash off the Magic Potion, I will always pat some warm water over the mask until it is soft enough to be massaged away.  Then gently massage in circular motions until the mask is gently rubbed off (note the emphasis on GENTLY).

11)  Rinse face thoroughly with cold water to close back the pores.

12)  Pat dry & apply 1 drop of rosehip oil as a facial moisturizer.

This hardcore masking really really really cleans my skin super well.  It clears up my blackheads, gets rid of facial bumps & dead skin, tightens my enlarged pores & brightens up my whole entire face.  Each time I do this masking, I will always be amazed at how my skin will look right after.  When I touch my skin, it is… … ohhhhhhhhhh so supple, soft, moisturized & super dupey smooth.  Love it love it love it.

By the way, this DIY Honey Facial Mask was the one that helped me clear up my 2 huge Cyborg Eyes that I blogged about a few weeks ago.  The 2 gigantic acne cleared up pretty fast & without much scarring or darkened spots.  I also dab the honey directly on the spots & leave it on for a few hours, just like a pimple cream.  It really helped to properly heal the unsightly monsters.

#6 – Good for Eyes
According to the article in the link above, it even states that honey is a “cure for eye infections for many years. It helps to treat the infection because it is has antibacterial properties and kills germs. It numbs pain, attracts water and therefore sucks bacteria dry, activates immune response, reduces inflammation and speeds healing“.

Really?????  This is the 1st time I’m hearing this, but I guess it would make sense as honey does have antibacterial properties.  That is why I use it to treat my acne.

Hmm.. but how to use it for the eyes?  Do they mean absorbing the nutrients by eating honey or applying it directly onto the eyes?  *curious curious*

#7 – Medicinal Benefits
Honey can be used to soothe sore throats, stimulate the heart, act as a natural sedative & even relive constipation!

#8 – Helps Healing
The article also went on to say that honey is an “antiseptic and disinfectant.  It has the ability to kill germs and helps to cure.  It is also good for treating wounds because it contains antimicrobial agents which kill bacteria, therefore preventing infection“.

This is true for me because each time I pop a zit (very very guilty about it, I know I should actually leave the zits alone), I dab honey direct on that injured spot & the inflammation goes down.  It is actually pretty soothing.

I have also read about how doctors use honey to treat open wounds & injuries.

#9 – Allergies
Honey can prevent & relive your seasonal allergies!  How great is that!

#10 – Honey
Ok, as per promised, I will give you the secret to the #10 way of using honey.

This is by far the MOST IMPORTANT way of using honey.  You can forget about the above 9 points but you must make sure that you remember this last point.

Some people actually already use honey in this way, but they might not even be aware of its benefit.

Are you ready?

The secret of using honey in its most powerful, most potent, most influential way… … … … is… … … …

TO CALL YOUR PARTNER, “HONEY”.

It can make people very very happy & can even foster good loving relationships.

omg i just made a lame joke & it’s not funny at all.

*silently gravitates into a dark corner to hide in embarrassment*

Big Berry Mii stamp of approval for HONEY!!!

Do you love honey too?  You should!

DIY Facial Mask – Moroccan Rhassoul Clay

16 Nov

I read that Moroccan Rhassoul Clay can be used as a soap, shampoo, facial  mask & skin conditioner.  But so far, I have only used this to DIY my own facial mask.

This red clay contains a higher percentage of silica, magnesium, potassium & calcium than other clays so even the finest spas currently utilize it for its therapeutic benefits.  This means that I am giving myself a great nourishing facial each time I use this clay.  =D !!!!!!!

I bought mine from Milagro Trading, previously known as Whoopee Kiddies.  You can read more about it on their website.

There were even studies done on this clay that shows it is effective in reducing dryness, improving skin clarity / elasticity & even removing oils.

AMAZING!

Plus it’s not expensive either.  I got the 1 oz jar (as shown in photo below) for only SGD$5.50 and it can surprisingly last quite a long time.

The first few times I made my rhassoul clay mask, I used Chamomile Roman Hydrosol to mix with the clay as I was having dry flaky eczema skin at that time.

The very 1st time I mix my own clay mask, I did not know how much clay to use & how much hydrosol to mix it with.  I got a little over-enthusiastic & used 1 tablespoon of clay then added hydrosol until it formed an almost watery texture.  There was so much facial mask that it was more than enough for my face, neck & chest!!!  Oh well, this clay can be used as a body mask anyway.

After a few more tries, I managed to get the right amount which is 1 to 2 teaspoons (depending how thick I want the mask to be).  Then I add hydrosol to a smooth thick consistency (as shown below photo).

And this is how Berry Mii does it:

1)  Wash my face with cleanser, but I add a little baking soda in that cleanser so it turns into a mild scrub.

2)  Mix my clay mask & let it sit.

3)  Steam my face for 5 mins with a towel over my head.

4)  Pat dry & apply the clay mask.

5)  Leave it on for about 10 to 30mins, depending on what kind of mask I make.  If it is clay + honey, then I will leave it on for longer as it is more moisturizing.

Point to note: when the clay mask dries up on your face, it can get very tight.  People with dry skin should avoid leaving it on for too long.  You can turn it into a moisturizing mask instead by adding honey like what I do.

6)  Time’s up.  I pat my face with warm water.  As the mask softens, I do a little face massage & it is quite exfoliating as well because the clay bits will scrub my skin.

7)  Rinse off with cold water to close pores & tighten skin.

The result is clear bright skin.  No joke.  The result is instantaneous.  The bumpy whiteheads on my temples are immediately smoothen out.  Blackheads & enlarged pores are visibly lesser.

I. IS. AMAZED!

Now that I am more confident about mixing my own clay mask, I add other stuffs into it as well like honey / essential oils / serums / green tea / apple cider vinegar / raw fruits or vegetables.  It really depends what my skin needs at that time & I love experimenting!

But so far my HG (Holy Grail) at this moment is Rhassoul Clay + Manuka Honey + a dash of cinnamon.  Remember I had the 2 cyborg eyes (huge red acne) on my face?  I did a little research on Google & decided to make this mask combination for myself.

Holy Moly, it is fabulous.  I love it.  It is deep cleansing, but so moisturizing at the same time.  It left my face feeling so so smooth & clear.

Of course it did not get rid of the 2 cyborg eyes immediately, but I dare say the mask calmed them down a lot.  On top of that I dab on some manuka honey & leave it on for like an hour (or even the whole night if you like) before washing it off.  It has amazing HEALING powers!!!  The honey managed to smooth out the acne spots & reduce the red hot inflammation.

Hmmm… my bf has this gigantic acne on his right armpit that he has been complaining about for a few days.  People get acne in all the weird places!  LOLOLOL!!!

He is so unwilling to try DIY stuff, but I think I should go Operation Armpit Attack on him & force slap some of my DIY acne formula (manuka honey + cinnamon) tonight.  For a week.  Yes, a week because that damn thing is SO HUGE like the size of my thumb.  SERIOUS!

My 2 cyborg eyes took about 3 days of manuka love to cure them.  So his should need treatment for a week or so.

Maybe give that armpit a little spa love as well & apply some of the rhassoul clay.

Everything feels so wrong, but right at the same time.

Ok, now I am excited for some strange reason.

Berry Mii stamp of approval for the Moroccan Rhassoul Clay!

Simmons PawPaw Salve

7 Nov

Previously, I had mentioned about getting the Simmons Pawpaw Salve HERE.  And as I mentioned, shipping cost from Australia is ridiculous!  But after many days of persistent research (i hate research), I found a local seller & ordered it online.

They have other brands of Pawpaw ointments, but I decided to go ahead with the Simmons Paw Paw Salve because I saw that it contains 51 mg/g of fresh fermented pawpaw.

wait a minute, how can fermented be fresh? hmmm...

It has the highest amount of fermented pawpaw & contains no petrochemicals.

I paid SGD$8.50 (includes shipping cost) for a 25g tube of Simmons Paw Paw Salve.

Pawpaw is actually papaya & my family loves eating it.  It is a delicious fruit that has antioxidants which can help boost our immune system with Vitamin C.  However, if you are allergic to latex then you should be aware that the unripe papaya contains latex fluid.

The pawpaw ointment can be used for boils, bruises, minor burns, pimples, eczema (yes!), dry skin, heat rash, insect bites & itchy mosquito bites.  Some websites even state that it can treat ringworm, whitlow & open injuries.  Nursing mothers can use it for dry cracked nipples (oh god that must be painful) while breast-feeding their newborns.  You can even use the ointment on babies to prevent diaper rash or treat it.

The Simmons Pawpaw Salve is a very thick hard balm.  I find that I need to exert some force to squeeze it out of the tube, or maybe it’s just my weak twiggy fingers.

If you play with it between your fingertips, it appears quite sticky.  But why would anyone want to play with it, right?  I dunno.  Just thought it would be fun.

I bought it because I wanted something to soothe my eczema that appears as a flaky patch at the corner of my lips, but I hardly find it useful.  It did provide some comfort with the dryness, but the eczema is still there & sometimes, it gave me a small zit.  And other times, it appears to have developed some bumps over that area.  =\   When I stopped applying the ointment, the bumps went away.  I think the bumps were rashes, but I thought this product is supposed to treat rashes & not create them?

I also tried it on my bf’s heat rash on his back, but no improvement after a week.

I applied it on my zits as well & while they did not go away, I think the paw paw made it easier for me to pop it.  hahaha… ok, I shouldn’t have done that.

However, I find that it works extremely well as a lip balm!  I was suffering from the worst kind of dry cracked lips from the cold air-conditioning in the office.  It was so dry that it was peeling off my lips & it was so unsightly that I tore out the flabby skin & it results in some bleeding.  (-_-)  Anyway, I cannot put on any other lip balms because that would probably activate my cold sores & no amount of water binging could take the dryness away.  Out of desperation, I took out the Simmons Pawpaw Salve & applied sparingly over my lips (trying to avoid touching my skin in case the bumps & zits came back).  By the end of the day, it was no longer chapping, cracking or flaking and my lips are happy, soft & smooth once again.  Just 1 application is all it takes & it lasts with not much need to reapply the pawpaw unless I wash my mouth.

I also tried to rub the pawpaw on my hands, feet & other dry areas like neck.  It works great as a protective moisturizer if you can ignore the slight stickiness, but it will sink into your  skin after a while. And because it does not smell girlish, I stuck to my Jurlique hand cream which I have reviewed HERE.

I have no idea why the ointment did not work as well as it should for my skin as zits & bumps appeared each time I used it.

Ingredients:
fermented pawpaw (carica papaya), water, Rhus Succedanea wax (Japan Wax Tree), glycerine, canola oil, hydrogenated castor oil, beeswax, corn starch

Everything looks ok.

So at first, I thought it would be that my skin reacts to the wax.  But upon further research on the internet, I realized that it could be the corn starch that caused those bumps on my skin.

Paula Begoun says “Starch obtained from corn and sometimes used as an absorbent in cosmetics instead of talc. However, when cornstarch becomes moist, it can promote fungal and bacterial growth.

That is what I managed to find out.  It could still be the wax as people can be allergic to it.  Maybe it is the cornstarch reacting in our humid weather after I applied it on my skin.  I wouldn’t know for sure at this point.

But for it’s amazing performance as a lip balm, it deserves a Berry Mii stamp.

The Organic Pharmacy: Starter Kit

15 Oct

After 1 month of using my 1st organic skincare range, I am finally ready to post up my review on The Organic Pharmacy!!!

=D

Does organic skincare work???

How does it compare to the other commercial brands out there???

Most importantly, is the customer service better at retail outlets selling organic skincare???  Ok, just kidding on this one.  Or HALF-kidding because organic skincare is so much more expensive than commercial brands, so I figure that the customer service provided should also be of higher quality, right?

If you read my previous posts, you will know that I have bought the organic skincare products from a local retail outlet called Bud Cosmetics.

From Bud Cosmetics, I bought the following organic items:

1.  100% Pure – Organic Cranberry Facial Cleansing Foam (which I had already given a review HERE)

2.  The Organic Pharmacy – Starter Kit (see below photo) which comprises of:

  1. 7ml Carrot Butter Cleanser
  2. 1 x Organic Cotton Muslin Cloth
  3. 5ml Antioxidant Serum
  4. 5ml Antioxidant Gel
  5. 7ml Double Rose Rejuvenating Cream
  6. 7ml Double Rose Ultra Cream
  7. 30ml Jasmine High Gloss Shampoo
  8. 30ml Jasmine High Gloss Conditioner
  9. 30ml Lemon & Eucalyptus Shower Gel
  10. Travel Pouch

The Starter Kit costs around SGD$150 from Bud Cosmetics.

I visited The Organic Pharmacy official Europe website HERE and saw that the Starter Kit costs like £45.00 & converts to about SGD$99 (without the shipping costs).  I will probably ask my friend to help me buy their products when he goes over to Europe next March.

The Organic Pharmacy seems to be on the higher end of the organic skincare market.  I found this article online HERE that states that a few Hollywood stars swear by one of its product called the Rose Plus Anti-Aging Cream.  Ah crap, it’s not in my starter kit.

I think organic products are not a sure guarantee that you will get perfect complexion.  Just like how you use other brands as well, there is no 100% guarantee that it will work for you.  So I guess you just have to trial & error to find out what suits your skin.  Well, if it does not turn out too well, at least you will still be feeding good natural safe stuff to your skin, right?

I have been using The Organic Pharmacy products (including the 100% Pure Cranberry cleansereveryday since 02 September 2010 for about a month.

The shampoo, conditioner & shower gel were the 1st to finish up.  Followed by the Carrot Butter cleanser.

But I still have about ½ amount left for the rest of the products.  I am surprised that a trial size can actually last for more than 1 month!  I am estimating that it will be good for a total of 2 months?  It lasts because I only need a small amount for the entire face.

If The Organic Pharmacy is not that pricey, I seriously will consider repurchasing their products in real-size because I truly feel that they work fabulously on my skin.  But at this moment, I am hesitant about the pricing..  =\

My initial thoughts:
I originally thought that organic skincare is not working for me because for the first 2 weeks, I felt like I was in living hell because my face broke out in small bumps + blackheads + whiteheads + fine lines all over my forehead.  It would seem like I have developed congested skin.

Mummyyyyyy!!!  Help me!!!!

I even gave some serious thought to stop using the skincare.

Luckily!  I browsed The Organic Pharmacy website & read that I have to give my skin at least 1 month to adjust.  See the link HERE and read the last paragraph which states, “Some may experience skin detox when switching to The Organic Pharmacy brand. This is literally the skin cleansing itself of petrochemical residues. Please allow one month for the skin to adjust.

Boy am I glad that I stuck with my organic skincare routine because now, I am VERY VERY EXTREMELY OMFG satisfied.

I am guessing that during the 2 weeks of living hell, my skin was experiencing purging of blackheads / whiteheads / toxins.  I initially also broke out with a few zits.

However, during the 3rd week, my face started clearing up more & more until I can visibly see the reduction of blackheads on my nose.

My weird rash disappeared COMPLETELY.

No cold sores.  No itchiness.

Maybe I will post up my Before & After photos within this October month.  I have taken photos before I used any organic skincare, so now I will take the after shots.

My Reviews on The Organic Pharmacy Starter Kit:

(a)  The Organic Pharmacy Carrot Butter Cleanser &

(b) The Organic Pharmacy  Organic Cotton Muslin Cloth

If any of you have used Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil, this Carrot Butter Cleanser basically works the same way.  It gets rid of all the impurities on your face & leaves it feeling clean.  From the instructions that I read on The Organic Pharmacy website, this is to be used for night cleansing.

Its texture is kind of like a soft wax & needs to be melted before you apply it onto dry face.

What I do is I scoop out about ½ a teaspoon of the cleanser onto my palm & just kind of tap on it repeatedly with my finger until it melts into an oil texture.  Then I massage it all over my dry face.

After massaging the oil around my face until I feel satisfied, I dampen the muslin cloth with warm water & wipe off the cleanser.

Why do we need to use the muslin cloth?

It is for a better cleanse because the texture of this cloth is slightly rough, but it does not hurt.  It just feels like it is exfoliating your face at the same time.

Also, if you do not use the muslin cloth, the oil from the cleanser doesn’t slide off your face when you rinse with water.  So you will probably feel uncomfortable leaving oil on your skin.

For me, I still double-cleanse with the Cranberry Cleanser from 100% Pure just to make sure all the dirt & grime is gone.

After that, my face feels grime-free & nicely moisturized!  Love it to the max.

Here is the ingredient list below.  I feel safe knowing that my skin is drinking up all the natural stuff now.  No SLS, no petro-chemicals, no silicone, no preservatives, no harshness in whatsoever way.

Jojoba, Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter, Coconut Oil, Carrot, Marigold, St Johns Wort, Rosemary, Sesame Seed Oil, Vitamin E, Lavender, Chamomile, Sunflower Oil, Beeswax.

I would definitely get a real-size Carrot Butter Cleanser after I’m done with the starter size.

(c)  The Organic Pharmacy Antioxidant Face Firming Serum &

(d) The Organic Pharmacy Antioxidant Gel

I can’t really comment much about the results of these 2 Antioxidant products because they just protect your skin & 1 month is too short a time for it to reverse sun damage like my freckles (as they have been around for like… centuries).

Still, I love the smell but I cannot describe it.  It has a little herbal scent + a little citrus scent.

For me, I spritz my face with Avene Thermal Water.  Then mix 1 drop of serum & 1 drop of gel on my palm to lightly pat on my damp face (the instruction told me to mix them like this & it is fun doing it!).  Or sometimes, I mix 2 drops of serum & 2 drops of gel for both my damp face & neck.  Must protect neck also, right?

Why do I apply it on damp skin?

Tips: Because I read that water can assist the products to get absorbed into your skin much better!  And I use the Avene Thermal Water because it is pure with no chemicals.

(e)  The Organic Pharmacy Double Rose Rejuvenating Cream

I did a little research over the internet on the reviews for this cream & it seems like a best-selling moisturizer at The Organic Pharmacy.

This cream is lightweight & smells like roses with a hint of herbs.  For us local Singaporeans, I am sure you will understand it better if I say that this moisturizer smells like Bandung.

I just need a little bit of the cream for the whole face!  I like the way it is moisturizing yet does not feel heavy or sticky.

I apply this after the Antioxidant serum & gel while my face is still slightly damp.  It absorbs wonderfully!

I am considering to get a full-size of this as well.

(f)  The Organic Pharmacy Double Rose Ultra Cream

This is another moisturizer in my starter kit.

It is thicker & heavier than the Double Rose Rejuvenating Cream.

Here, I’ll include a photo as comparison for the (e) Rejuvenating Cream & (f) Ultra Cream below:

You can see that the Rejuvenating Cream is smoother & more watery than the Ultra Cream.

This Ultra Cream is more suitable for dry skin.  And since I do not have dry / dehydrated skin, I pat a little on my neck while it is still damp from shower.  Whereas my mother who is older ahem… more matured, she absolutely loves this thicker cream as it absorbs wonderfully on her face!  =D  She is already asking me to get my friend to purchase this for her as well.  Tee Hee!

I must add that it is surprising to see that my neck is smoother than ever!!!  omg.  The lines that I have on my neck is not as obvious as before!!!  Of course a few of the deep creases are still slightly noticeable, but trust me when I say that they look a lot better after 1 month of applying the Ultra Cream everyday!

My neck used to have these rough bumps but now when I run my hands along my neck, they are gone.  GONE.  How amazing is that???  Even the fine lines & creases have significantly improve!!!

I really really really really loveeeeeeeeeeee the way this moisturizer works for my neck, but it would be a little silly to get the full-size just for neck application.  Right?  I dunno.  I’m holding out on this one first.  But if I cannot find another product that works that well for my neck, then I’ll get this in full-size as well.

(g)  The Organic Pharmacy Jasmine High Gloss Shampoo,

(h) The Organic Pharmacy Jasmine High Gloss Conditioner &

(i)  The Organic Pharmacy Lemon & Eucalyptus Shower Gel

I’m just going to do these 3 together because there is nothing much I can comment as they only last for 3 times of usage.

The jasmine shampoo doesn’t foam very much, so I used quite a lot as I have really long hair.  After I rinse off the shampoo, my hair felt squeaky clean!  It might feel like the shampoo had stripped off all the moisture, but after my hair dried, it was smooth & soft with volume.  Strange, right?  I probably need a bigger bottle in order to really give a review on this.  =(

The jasmine conditioner did not ‘stick’ on my hair like the normal commercial conditioners.  This is probably because the organic conditioner does not contain silicone or fillers like our commercial conditioners, so it felt like it didn’t stay on my hair.  I at first thought that it was not going to work, but after I rinse the conditioner off, the ends of my hair felt smooth & slick!

The lemon & eucalyptus shower gel also does not foam much because it does not contain cancer-causing SLS or any harmful ingredients.  The smell is invigorating and left me wanting more!  After I dried myself off, my body skin does not feel tight.

However, for these 3 products, I will not be getting them again because of their high prices.

Overall thoughts:

I am sure to start on a natural / organic products from now on.  Plus, I believe that the organic products are going to do greater good with my body.  Having said that, I still do not think that I will go 100% into natural / organic.

But I realized that being more aware of the harmful ingredients can save me money too!  Because I used to go over to any skincare counter & look at that products with its cute packaging + advertising hype and I want to buy them.  Now I pick up a product & look at its ingredient list first.  If I see an ingredient that I do not like, I put it back.  $$$ saved!

The only problem I am facing now is buying the organic products that I want.  Most of them are not available in Singapore.  And those that are sold here in Singapore, has a high mark up.  But I guess it will be worth it in the end by cutting down on the daily chemicals I put on my body.

By the way, if you’re interested to know the ingredients for The Organic Pharmacy, you can find them in their official website where they state the full ingredients for each of their products!  =D

Before I end this, a Berry Mii stamp of approval for The Organic Pharmacy!  Big one.

100% Pure: Organic Cranberry Facial Cleansing Foam

20 Sep

Dated 20 Sept 2010
p.s – i am very very angry!!!!  I lost all my photos in my laptop due to virus!!!  And as one of my Facebook friends put it, it is one classic FML situation.

Therefore, I have to take the photos from the original 100% Pure website first to put up this post.  I will put up my own original photos of the product once I get my laptop back.

Dated 28 Sept 2010
NEWLY UPDATED:  Hey people!  I have updated those missing photos as I have gotten my laptop back already!  Check it out if you want.  All updated parts are typed out in this soothing green color.  How considerate of me.  =D

In my previous blog posts on my discovery of organic skincare (Part I is HERE & there is a link in there for Part II), I said that I will provide my review on the organic skincare products in 3 weeks’ time.

One of these products is the Organic Cranberry Facial Cleansing Foam from the brand 100% Pure.

TAH DAHHHHH!!!!

Front View

Close-Up View

Let’s see what this cleanser can do for our skin!  See below photo!

Long before the birth of this blog, there must have been dozens of cleansers that I have washed my sensitive face with in my past many years.  Neutrogena, Bioessence, Beauty Credit, The Face Shop, The Skin Food, Biore, Shu Uemura, Shiseido, etc etc.

Some of these cleansers dried my skin out, which caused lots of flaking skin & dry rough patches (especially around my mouth area).

Others left my face producing more oil than ever.

A few of them irritated & probably made my cold sores worse.

A minority of the cleansers did not inflict any further harm, but also did not improve anything.

In a way, it was my own skin that could not tolerate the chemicals used in these cleansers.  They will probably work better on people with tougher flesh & higher immunity system.

If you are looking to feed your skin with wholesome natural goodness, then I suggest you go organic as well because our skin basically absorbs up to 60 – 70% of whatever stuff we apply to it.

Why I chose this brand over so many other organic brands in the world???  I have absolutely no idea.  Maybe it is because when I look at its ingredient list, it contains only natural ingredients.

But but but… exactly how natural???

You can check it out for yourself!  See below photo for ingredient list:

Ingredients:Organic White Tea1, Organic Green Tea1, Organic Rose Hydrosol1, Extracts of Organic Cranberry2, Organic Raspberry2, Organic Blackberry2, Organic Cherry2, Organic Pomegranate2, Organic Blueberry2, Organic Grapefruit Seed3, Organic Rosemary4, Organic Thyme4, Organic Oregano4, Organic Goldenseal5, Organic Cinnamon4 and Organic Blood Orange2, Organic Tangerine Essential Oil2, Coconut Cleanser (coco betaine), Citric Acid, Witch Hazel, Japanese Honeysuckle Extract

1 Certified Organic by Oregon Tilth Certified Organic
2 Certified Organic by Organic Certifiers
3 Certified Organic by Baystate Certification Organic
4 Certified Organic by QAI
5 Certified Organic by Maryland Department of Agriculture

It does not even contain WATER, okay.  You want to know why?  Because according to my EXTENSIVE research on Google, I found out that air & water are the 2 elements that will cause products to go ‘bad’.

And since 100% Pure does not use preservatives that will cause irritation to your skin, they take out water & replace it with tea – Organic White Tea & Organic Green Tea.  This is to minimize the chances of the products going ‘bad’.

How radical is that?!?!

I am no expert, but isn’t green tea supposed to be high in antioxidants & all kind of lovely stuff associated with it???  And now, it is not only green tea, but ORGANIC green tea with a certification from Oregon Tilth Certified Organic!!!  *thumbs up thumps up*

I have been using this cleanser every single day since Thursday (02 Sept 2010).  This is for all skin types, especially for those with dull skin.  Yay for me!  Because I have the ultimate dull tired-looking skin ever made in human history!!!  I am exaggerating, but I do look tired or ‘yellow’ all the time.

I have to stress that I have stopped ALL other skincare products.  And I am using this cleanser together with the products from The Organic Pharmacy, so I am currently still not sure if the results that I am getting now is due to the cleanser or the other skincare from The Organic Pharmacy or both.  But my next blog post will be on the skincare from The Organic Pharmacy.

Let’s talk about this cleanser first.

The liquid in the transparent container is light yellowish in color & its consistency is like water scratch that, juice.  It resembles ORANGE juice.  You might even see some residue at the top of the liquid, but I guess that is perfectly normal as it is probably from the natural ingredients.

In fact, it even smells like freshly peeled oranges.

When I squeeze the pump at the top, frothy deliciously-smelling foam comes out.  See photo below:

It is amazing how it can foam like this when there are no chemicals in this cleanser!  Then I looked closer at the ingredients & noticed Coco-Betaine, so that’s how they do it.  This ingredient is derived from coconut & is used to create foam, so it is kind & gentle to our skin.

In addition, if you look at the label, you will notice this symbol with a number on it.  See below photo:

This symbol with the drawing of an opened container means that once opened, the product’s shelf life is up to 6 months.

As the organic products do not contain preservatives, it has an understandably shorter shelf life.  That is why manufacturers produce these products in small quantities, so that they can remain fresh!  In other words, it is good for us consumers because we get to purchase FRESHIES!!!

Getting on with the actual review!!!

This cleanser is NOT harsh at all.  It does not leave me with a burning sensation around my mouth / lip area & it did not make my skin feel tight.  When I previously used a tea tree cleanser from Beauty Credit, my lip area immediately felt like it was BURNING, ok.

There is also no weird reaction to the cleanser like cold sores or funny itch rash on my chin.

After I wash off the cleanser with warm water, it feels slightly moisturizing but not oily.  Does that make any sense??  Hmmm… ok, just imagine you grab some papaya skin to wipe across your face.  Sorry, that’s the best description I can think of.  It is the feeling of smoothness & feeling safe, knowing that it contains only organic stuff.

In fact, I can choose not to slap on any moisturizer after washing my face because it does not feel too tight or dry.  Unless the weather is kinda cold, then my cheeks will feel a little too painful from the dryness.

What’s up with my face, right????  It’s either you stay oily or you stay dry or you are normal.  What the hell do I have oily T-zone but super dry cheeks?!?!?!?!  FRUSTRATING!!!

Although it states that the cleanser can remove makeup, but I personally would not try that.  I still believe in using a proper makeup remover.

This cleanser is slowly, but surely taking its place in becoming my #1 must-have cleanser!

I honestly love the freshly squeezed juice scent.  It is NATURAL, HEALTHY & ORGANIC and and… and…. THANK YOU MOTHER OF ALL NATURE!!!!

I am so grateful to have found this organic cleanser that my heart is just bursting with emotions now.  You have no idea how desperate I am to find a product that doesn’t give me allergy problems or cold sores!!!

However, being the unfaithful lover that I am, I might want to try out the Cucumber Facial Cleanser under the same brand as well.  In fact, I suddenly want to try out all the 100% Pure products now!!!

GIVE THEM TO ME NAO NAO NAOOOOOO!!!!

One thing I have to admit is that when you see the packaging for all the 100% Pure products, they look like some cheapo brand that nobody wants to buy.

But as I researched over the internet, it seems like people love this brand for its natural organic ingredients!  And by ‘people’, I mean the ang  mohs (Caucasians).  I am almost sure that us Singaporeans have never heard of 100% Pure unless you are obsessed over organic stuff, especially the younger generation.  I mean, I am not THAT young, but I was also previously obsessed with Korean skincare because they all look so cute & fascinating.

Next reviews will be on The Organic Pharmacy!!!  This brand is said to be well-liked by famous Hollywood people!  WHAT???????  SURE OR NOT!!!  Definitely must set my standards higher now.

And before I end this post, this organic Cranberry cleanser deserves a Berry Mii stamp of approval!!!!

Elianto: Organic Infusion Rebalancing Face Mask

3 Sep

WHO DARES DENY THE POWERS OF ORGANIC?????????

You know I love Kurt (the girly guy) on Glee???  There was this one episode where his father went something like, “I think your head is turning to mush with all that hair products you put in your hair”.  And Kurt was like, “oh don’t worry about it.  It’s organic”.

Most of us probably never heard of the brand name – Elianto.  I haven’t too, until I was in Tampines Mall on this rare occasion (I hardly travel that far to the east).  They have a booth there on the 2nd storey.  Now I’m a frequent shopper at Tampines Mall.  NOT because of Elianto.  Geez.  Because of the variety of stuff I can see there!  Read my previous post HERE.

I browsed the products on the Elianto shelf & came across this Organic Infusion range.  What caught my eye was obviously the word “ORGANIC”.

I was particularly interested in the face mask.  I dunno why but among the rest of the skincare products (ie: cleansers, toners, moisturizers, etc), the face masks interest me the most.

As I read the product packaging, I feel more & more compelled to get it.

(click for larger photo)

No paraben, chemical & fragrance?

ECOCERT certified?

HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!

*buys one immediately, maybe with a little touch of compulsion but will eventually end up with no regrets*

And naturally, anything that is organic, cannot be cheap.  For a petite tube at 50ml, it cost about $20.  Squeeze a few times & you’ve down the tube by half (just kidding but it does feel that way because the tube is supermodel skinny, if you know what I mean).

The second I reach home, I slap some on my face.

The mask comes in the form of a cream that is smooth & light.  It does not feel heavy or sticky.  Kind of feels like a facial moisturizer, but with a slightly thicker consistency.

Obviously the scent is nothing great as it is free from fragrance.  To me, it smells a little like a Chinese herbs shop.  But others might think it has a sandalwood scent.  Either ways, this type of smell doesn’t bother me.  Who cares about scents when it can do wonders for my skin.

I know the instructions tell you to apply a generous amount, leave it for 20mins, massage in, tissue off & apply toner.  It didn’t even tell you to rinse off the excess mask cream.

I always want to do things my way as there is always this small nagging voice that tells me not to leave any funny stuff on my face.  Therefore, my procedures are as follows:

1)  Apply an adequate amount (why must be GENEROUS?).

2)  Leave it for 20mins.

3)  Lightly massage in using my fingertips in a circular motion.  At this point, some dried cream would have come off your face like bits of dirt.

4)  THEN I lightly wet my face with water & massage some more for another 1 or 2 mins.

5)  WASH OFF with warm water (leaving mask cream on your face seems so… … wrong).

6)  Follow up with the rest of your skincare regime like toner & zit cream or whatever.

I have been using this face mask 2 times a week for a continuous total of 12 weeks.

Personally, it has worked fabulously for me.

I was having these small pus-zits around my face & some were trapped underneath the skin which looked like bumps on my face.

By the 2nd time I used the face mask, those irritating bumps that were beneath the skin actually resurfaced & looked ready to pop with the yellow pus head that sticks out, but of course I don’t pop them & leave them alone to heal on its own.  Popping pimples always will leave a dark-colored mark.

Around the 3rd week, the zits have reduced significantly.  I wouldn’t say that it’s a miracle and ALL the zits are gone.  This is not some miracle product.  But the zits are much much lesser, it goes away quicker & the frequency of reappearance has also reduced.

Also, my face tends to feel tight & dry especially around the cheek & mouth area (which is also known as your U-zone), but after I slap some of this organic face mask on, it takes away all that dryness.  Quenching my face with its with moisturizing effects.

It is not heavy, so I didn’t break out into zits or blackheads.  IN FACT, it made my pores look cleaner!!!  Or it could be because I did Step 4 above & all that massage that I did to pamper my face has also rubbed off all the dirt in my clogged pores. hmmm…

This is definitely going to be a PR (Permanent Resident) in my bathroom cabinet!!!

*heart feels with deep love*

Before I end this blog post, I also looked up some of the ingredients on Google:

(click for larger photo)

The thing that I’m not so keen about is that it contains some alcohol ingredients in there.  And we all know what alcohol can do to your skin.  It dries it out!  I’ve done a lot of research on the internet & a lot of skincare websites state that it does too!  But when there are so many other goody ingredients in this face mask, I think I can close 1 eye to the alcohol contents.

Nice ingredients are like:

Caprylic / Capric Triglyceride
This is derived from coconut oil and glycerin.  It can quickly penetrate the surface to condition the skin / hair & provides a lightweight and non-greasy barrier of lubrication.  It also helps enhance the delivery of vitamins, pigments and other active ingredients contained in a solution so that they become evenly spread out and fully absorbed by the epidermis.

Melissa Officinalis Leaf Extract
It has wonderful soothing and cooling properties while at the same time, it contains anti-viral and antibiotic properties to boost the health of the skin and acting as a general tonic as well.

Sounds good, right??

On a last last final note, remember to do a patch test each time you purchase a new product!!!  Even if some products are using organic or natural ingredients, you will still need to do a patch test!  You never know if you might be allergic to some essential oils or any food products (like almonds?).

Personally for me, I will definitely give this face mask a Berry Mii stamp of approval.  =D

The Face Shop: Raspberry Collagen Eye Patch

29 Aug

As we age, our eyelids start to sag.  Fine lines appear when we laugh (oh hell, my laugh lines are even there when I am not laughing).  Our skin starts to dry up, resulting in even more wrinkles & looser saggy skin.  Sad.

Like some wise one said, “Eyes are the windows to the soul”.

But what if our eyes look like we haven’t slept for days or what if they look lifeless???  What would that say about our souls???  :-\

So, off I go in search for the perfect (is there really such a thing as perfect?) remedy for tired eyes that are loosing their elasticity.

My sister’s friend then told me that she SWEARS BY this eye patch from The Face Shop which she first discovered in Korea.  She told me that she bought practically a whole luggage back because it was so much cheaper than getting them in Singapore & she was willing to SELL me some.  😐  Sell?  Can give or not?  *me the cheapskate fella*

I eventually bought 8 packets of eye patches from her because she said that to achieve optimum results, the Korean salesperson told her to use it at least 2 times a week for a continuous period of 4 weeks.

Sadly, the instructions are all in Korean.  How I wish that The Face Shop Korea can provide an English translation like their competitor – The Skin Food Korea!!!  I have absolutely no idea what it is trying to tell me.  See below photo:

Especially the cute little girl cartoon that they drew on the back of the packet.  See below photo:

Seriously.

What is it trying to tell me???

*ponders over the drawing for a while*

Ahh!!  *light bulb moment*

I think it’s trying to say, “look cute .  30-40 mins later, then put on collagen eye patches under the eyes.

Yes??????

No???

Sigh.

Send help, please.

In the end, I managed to get my sister to contact her friend for some advise.

Her friend told me that the salesperson in Korea gave her some interesting tips as follows (and she couldn’t have provided these tips when my sister went to collect my eye patches from her???? I mean, I super appreciate it):

1)  There are 2 sides to the eye patch.  The gauze side & the jelly side.  So we’ll have to determine which is which first.  Of course, paste the jelly side to your eyes.

2)  Leave it under your eyes for 30 – 40mins.

3)  Remove.

4)  Throw away?????  NO.  The process is not done!  You may also make use of the eye patches for your laugh lines!!!  Don’t waste!!!  PASTE IT at the corner of your lips!!!

5)  Leave them on for another 10 – 15 mins.

6)  Remove.

7)  Ok… NOW you may throw the eye patches away.

I got to rave about the Raspberry Collagen Eye Patch from The Face Shop.  After finishing the eye patch supplies at the end of the 4-week testing, I am totally in love with this product now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I finally understand why my sister’s friend swears by this eye patch.  For the simple fact that it WORKS.

The skin around my eye area is no longer loose.  It is tighter.  My eyes look brighter (although I’m not too sure about how moisturizing the eye patch can be)!!!  Actually, I’m quite curious if this raspberry eye patch can get rid of dark circles as well because I do feel that it appears slightly lighter, but because the whole packet is written in Korea, I can never fully understand what purpose it is for except for the word COLLAGEN on the front of the packet.  Or maybe it is because my eyes don’t look that tired anymore, so they look brighter??  *shrugs*

Collagen = tighter = younger = fresher

*big love for collagen*

I tried to take before & after pictures of my eyes, but the difference doesn’t really show up on photos.  I mean, it is not cosmetic surgery that I had gone thru, right????  So the changes are not THAT drastic to be captured on film.

Besides, there are too many factors that contribute to an accurate photo (like lighting or the angle of the camera, etc).  And I am so not prepared to use the eye patch on only ONE side of my eye, then take a photo to compare both sides.  The sacrifice is way too big, man.

Using just the naked eye to examine myself in the mirror, there really is an improvement.  I totally approve of this eye patch!!!

You can get this in our local The Face Shop stores.  But I’m warning you, it doesn’t come cheap.  The last time I checked, they are selling this at $9.90 for 2 packets.  1 packet contains 1 pair of eye patch.  So, this means it costs $4.95 per packet for 1 time use.  It is actually more expensive than some of the mask sheets I got.  But I guess it is worth it.  That’s why I encourage you to use the eye patches for your laugh lines too.

UTILIZE THE PRODUCT TO ITS FULLEST!!!!!!!

BE CHEAPSKATE LIKE ME!!!!!!

Oh right, before I end this post, I give this a SUPER ULTRA BIG Berry Mii stamp of approval!!!!  =D

The Skin Food: Ginseng Wash-Off Mask

25 Aug

We have tried a lot of face masks in our lives, whether it is a mask sheet or a wash-off mask or a peel-off or even a heating mask.

But how many of us can say that the mask actually smells strongly of Ginseng???

NOW WE CAN!!!

There is this new range of Wash-Off masks at The Skin Food and the one we tested 2 times a week for a continuous period of 3 weeks is the Ginseng mask!!!

Click on any of the images to see a larger photo.

One of our human ‘test subjects’ had bought this from a local supplier who carries authentic Korea products & we are all eager to find out what the results are like!

As you can see, everything is written in Korean.  We were quite disappointed to see that the ingredient list is also written in Korean because we want to know what is in this mask.

But wait!!!

What is this flap at the bottom of the container that says, “Open Here”??

Not possible you scoop the mask out from THERE, right???

*itchy fingers pick at the flap*

Gosh!!!  The Skin Food Korea is kind & considerate enough to include English!!!  In fact, I think among all the Korean brands, The Skin Food is the only one who included an English version on both their website & products.  They deserve an award or something, man.

When you first open the container, it is the very strong Ginseng smell that hits you first.  This should mean that there are lots & lots of good stuff in this mask, right??  As you peek at the mask, it has an off yellowish-grey color & there are tiny bits of Ginseng powder evenly distributed in the gel-like mask.

Slapping on the mask is not a hassle at all.  I would think that it is most suitable for people on-the-go (or the impatient ones) who do not have much time to spend lying around in bed for 15-20 mins & waiting for the mask to set.

For this Ginseng mask, you first have to cleanse your face & massage it on.  Then leave it for only 5 mins & rinse off!!!  It is THAT fast & simple.  You can even do this in the shower.  How convenient & fuss-free!!!  The fact that you only need 5 mins must mean that the mask is jam-packed filled with delicious potent stuff that works FAST to create results, right?

I am quite tempted to know what this tastes like.

Will it… taste like… ginseng?????

*chickens out*

Anyway, you know what it did for my skin?

The thing that I am absolutely most satisfied with is that I managed to get a slightly dewy complexion at the end of the 3-week testing!!!

I used to have these wrinkly fine lines around my cheek & mouth areas because they were so dry & my complexion has always been tired-looking.  But after 3 weeks, I feel that my complexion does not look that lifeless anymore!  Even the fine lines are not that obvious when I laugh or smile!  =D

However, my T-zone (which was originally already oily) has gotten a little oilier than before, so I would suggest not to apply this too often on the T-zone area.  Maybe just once a week is sufficient.

Overall, I truly am impressed with how this mask works out for me & give it a Berry Mii stamp of approval.  =D

I’m even thinking of trying out the other masks under this range!!!

😉

Vichy: Hydra-Perfecting Toner

23 Aug

Among all the toners that I have tried, the Vichy toner is definitely my favorite.

*pastes gold stars all over the bottle*

Sorry, I couldn’t post up my own photo becuz the bottle was so translucent & it was so hard to get a clear photo.  The above is taken from the Vichy website HERE.

Maybe it’s something about the fresh light medical scent that attracted me?  I don’t know why but I seem to feel that it makes me feel clean.  Of course it’s not the hospital kind of medicine scent.  It’s more fresh & light.  HARD TO DESCRIBE.  Just go visit a local pharmacy store to sniff a tester or something.

My skin is sensitive & when I use certain products, it tends to give me these mosquito-like bumps that itches like hell.  Some of my friends also experience this when they use products that are too harsh or when it contains certain ingredients.

My mum saw all these red rashes around my face & gave me a ½ used bottle of Vichy toner that she was using.  I was desperate, so I took it home & eventually, fell in love with it.

Mummy, you are a life-saver.  *big hugs*

This toner not only makes me feel like it has thoroughly cleansed my face, it also left me feeling hydrated but not oily.  It could be the combination of their thermal spa water + some kind of shea butter extract (as read from their ingredient list).

The best part?  It’s alcohol-free!!!!!!

This Vichy toner has also been tested on sensitive skin & is under dermatological control.

All these advantages are screaming USE ME USE ME USE ME SLAP ME ON YOUR FACE!!!!!!

You know what I learnt?  I learnt that if you want to tighten those pores, you can soak a cotton wool with toner & paste it on areas of your face (like the forehead or the nose or cheeks or chin).  Leave it for 10mins then remove the cotton wool.  No rinsing required.  You can then follow-up with your moisturizer & pimple cream or eye cream.  😉

I totally give this a Berry Mii stamp of approval!!!  My mom would too.

Have you tried the Vichy:  Hydra-Perfecting Toner?

Any other toners to recommend for sensitive skin???
